FITNESS FRIDAY: TRAIN THE RIGHT WAY LIKE MICHAEL CHANG

Every Friday we will highlight the fitness of top players past and present. This week, train the right way like Michael Chang.

Michael Chang is retired now but at his peak during the late 80s and throughout the 90s, he was a spectacular athlete and an incredible tennis player. He won the French Open in remarkable style in 1989 and achieved the career high ranking of number 2 in the world in September of 1996.

Chang was known for his incredible movement and court coverage. Michael was a smart player who won his matches by outmaneuvering and out thinking his opponents rather than overpowering them. He was an extremely quick player that made his opponents work for every point.

Unfortunately for Chang, his career coincided with the careers of all-time greats Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker, Jim Courier, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras. In spite of the stiff competition, Chang trained hard and "trained the right way" which allowed him to become the best player that he could be.

For the reasons mentioned above and more, Michael Chang is our Fitness Friday athlete.
